I saw this one on Broadway in New York!
It's ok, but definitely not one of my favorites. The story was the same as the animated movie, but scenes were added and some of the dialogue was changed. The costumes and scenery on the other hand, were absolutely gorgeous and amazing to see. Although Disney theater has its faults, it has the best special effects and costumes and scenery of any other Broadway companies around.
I did not fall in love with the added songs like I did with the Lion King's added songs. There were a few cute songs, but none of them were memorable and the melodies were flat and plain and had nothing catchy. I felt they could have done a lot more on some of the tunes, like the Beast had an added solo song that lacked a certain measure of melody and belting notes out.
The acting was fair, and the actors who had the parts did a great job trying to act with the costumes and the lines they were given. Some parts seemed a little young, but it was a Disney production.
Anyone else see this musical?

Haven't seen it; I don't typically get around to seeing Broadway shows... I've heard interesting stuff about it, from excellent to horrible, and then somewhere in between, a bit where you are, Ana. It's interesting to hear, and I've considered seeing it, but I rarely have the time or the opportunity to go.
How were the special effects? You've mentioned them to be really good, but what sort of stuff were they trying to do?

I saw it once, several years ago, and thought it decent. It wasn't spectacular for Broadway, but it certainly wasn't horrible... The additions made lacked... spark. 'Tis the only word I can think of for it. It followed plot and so on, but it didn't jump out as excellent.
As Ana said, it was really, really good with scenery and the like, and costumes on Broadway are almost always stunning. Actors... perhaps could have used a bit more experience, but I'm not complaining - with what they had, it was done well.
Special effects... they were all right, to my memory, but I don't remember them enough to comment with any justice...
