Please read through the following page thoroughly before submitting your entry. Once you have read through this, follow these steps to post your submission. 1. Edit your submission. You can either have the submission edited by one of our volunteers (see Scrolls of the Citadel), or have it done by someone else. Work that is “hot off the press”, so to speak, is often laid with errors, so please have someone read through your submission to check. 2. Rate your submission. The site is kept at a public rating, so if your submission is not appropriate for all possible audiences, make sure that others know! If you aren’t sure how to rate your submission, go here[/u]. 3. Select the appropriate board for your submission. 4. Title your message. If the submission is rated above G or PG, that needs to be in the title. For example: Submission Title (R)5. Enter our submission template into the body of the first message. It can either be a message on its own, or it can be in the same post as the first chapter of your submission. 6. Enter in Nirnaeth Arnoediad after Dagor Bragollach to show that you have indeed read these rules. 7. Post the rest of your submission until its complete!

Further Notes ~ NO NC-17 work and no slash. No negotiation. ~ No RPF/SI submissions. RPF = Real Person Fic and SI = Self-Insertion. If you move LoTR characters to Earth to see what happens, be my guest, but don't post a fic about Elijah Wood at :~ToA~: ~ No blatant Mary-Sues! You character can be powerful, look great, win battles, and so forth, but don't make him or her perfect! Quite frankly, there has to be something wrong with them, right? It's gets boring - honestly. Negotiation here is possible, depending on the writing quality of the individual submission. ~ Discouraging MSTs and interactive fics. Don't have the reader responding to your submission in questions and so forth. You may, however, start discussions within the review thread for that particular submission, or you may contact the manager privately to request opening a new thread in the appropriate review board. ~ Canon or no is not a problem, but keep it within the relative probability. For example, let's not move Gondor next to the Shire, the Anduin to Harad, or have Arwen be a hobbit... ~ Be aware that if management considers the rating assigned to your submission as inappropriate, the author will be emailed. If there is no response within three days, the submission in question will be deleted. The author may repost said submission within seven days of the original notice, with the appropriate changes made. ~ If submitting an essay, please cite your sources, and follow the same guidelines. If your sources have not been cited, the submission will be deleted. The manner or citation does not matter – parenthetical, within a bibliography, in footnotes, etc. – but it must be present. ~ As shown in the submission template, please have a disclaimer. It saves lots of hassle and misery. Your submission will be deleted without one, without a warning. ~ AU and crossover is accepted, but under the restriction that it be primarily Tolkien. ~ Regarding poetry submission, it's the only submission allowed that does not need to be distinctly Tolkien. As long as it meets ratings and does not clearly pertain to some other fandom, feel free to post it. For example, don't post a poem about the Matrix or some such thing, but if you've a poem on something else random - seasons or feelings or something, go ahead. It's welcome.
