And one of those controversial topics revolving around the RoTK EE... Was anyone else disappointed over it? I'm not one of those people who's going to scream "Kill Peter Jackson!!" (I rather like the guy, as a matter of fact... after all, without him, the movies wounldn't be here, period...), but I did think the E/F relationship was handled somewhat poorly. I think Miranda said something in the cast commentary about how they had to try to show Eowyn just getting up and having everything be okay with another guy, and I add in as my side note, "without having her be a total slut." I'm not sure I liked how Eowyn seemed so broken up about Aragorn, decided to ride to battle to die, and then seemed so okay about everything and just sort of went with Faramir. For their time period, it seemed like they were moving really fast... Granted, I'd have loved to see more canon lines in there, and seeing's they're the only couple that actually kisses in the books, their kiss would have been nice, but then, there was only so much time to spend on it... Ergh... I know I went back and forth... Why? Two reasons: I want to engage people to agree or disagree, and I'm also in the middle. I'm like this for the entire movie, seeing both sides. It gets annoying, but hey. ~ Elwen

Haha, you seem to think like me... Yeah, I thought that was way too short for the amount of action and movement that was thrown into it. It kind of turned Eowyn's character around - their romance was no longer this gorgeous, respectful, smooth relationship that came from sheer appreciation, but it became something too... fast or something like that. It was nice to see them together, but it appeared to really ditch the concept, if that makes any sense. ~ Varda

*shrugs* I thought it was really nice to see them together, period. So much was cut out of the movies (yeah, I get why, but it still makes me mad that it was nice to see a solid portion of canon. I'm not saying that there wasn't any, but still. Yeah, maybe they did move a little faster than we expected, but maybe the audiences just figured that we were dropping in on a later meeting, not their first; they'd been in the HOH long enough, implied, that they had likely met prior. Right? ~ Elbereth

Considering the time restraints, I thought PJ did a good job in showing the growing relationship between Faramir and Eowyn. It was always going to be hard to fit in everything from RotK, and the scenes they showed did give the audience ( those who haven't read the book) some semblance of a happy ending for the two of them. And for those who have read the book and are avid F/E fans, then the short scenes they did show will be watched over and over again until it feels like PJ actually spent more time on them . Of course, I'd prefer an entire 30 minutes dedicated to their love and wedding and happy life, but now I cling to those quick glances between Faramir and Eowyn. Kinda disappointed about the missing kiss, but I don't think I'll be chasing PJ around with a sword and screaming "Death!" over it.

I mean, yeah, of course. Let's all brandish the swords. But yeah, I'm glad it was there, period, as a complete book person, but just for the heck of it, it should have had a little more depth to it... Makes it seem a little less.... I don't know... I guess close, or personal, or something like that. *shrugs* But maybe that's just me. ~ Elwen

Mmm yeah, even i agree. They didn't have enough of Eowyn's relationship with Faramir. Those who havent read the book would come away from seeing the theatrical version thinking "Oh, maybe she'll eventually find love with that guy seeing Aragorn's obviously said he's not interested". In fact, that's what a friend of mine thought - until i explained to her there was more to it.
Yeah, its good to add it in SOMEWHERE, but still....

Yeah, that's pretty much it: there's way too much room for misinterpretation. People unfamiliar with what's supposed to be happening think it's just an idealistic thought meant to leave viewers guessing, that that's not supposed to happen. I guess we just have to take what we can get, but we can still complain.. ~ Elwen

I thought what was there was brilliant true enough but I don't think that in what a solid (was it 5, 10, 15, 20 mins) that someone who had rode to war to be with a man she loved could suddenly forget all of what she'd been through.....but I am yet to fall in love so who knows if it could happen or not...
But then I am rather biased and tend to argue more to the side of the books cos I loved them so much.....

If they had not spent so muuch time on Arwen being there when in the books she wasn't they would have had time to put in more E/F. I was one of the people sitting there in the theatre watching the movies going. "I out to wring Peter Jackson's filthy little neck! Curse, him we hates him!" E/F definatly could have been better done. There is a etition to get a picture of tem kissing from New Line over on Elfsheen. DeeDee is trying to get people to sign it, so if you would go sign it that would be great. There it is here: www.petitiononline.com/fareowyn/petition.html

Exactly - I wasn't one of the people trying to kill Peter, but still. If it was the one kiss within the whole of the books, it had to be important... Just a little. And I don't know - it's just one of those things where you pick and choose. I don't think Arwen was overdone (think about it - if she'd just walked in and married Aragorn, poor Liv would already have gotten lynched by this point... ), but they spent so much time doing random things that putting Faramir and Eowyn in wouldn't have added to that in a negative way. I personally think that some of Legolas' random stunts (i.e. oliphaunt surfing... : should have been eliminated if something had to go, but hey... ~ Elwen

I liked most of Legolas' crazy tricks... When I saw RotK (not EE) I was too busy screaming at my best friend that there "was no Faramir and Eowyn!" to notice much. I was very happy with EE,but I would have liked a kiss/wedding/recognition that they were together.

*sobs* They cut it out!!! AGH!!! All right... I'm done now... I'm not going to go after Jackson brandishing a torch and a sword and screaming "DEATH"... Part of me wants to, I suppose, but I'm not going to. F/E should have had more screentime. They spent so much time embellishing the Aragorn/Arwen connection for audiences that they should have done more with Faramir/Eowyn. Yes, it would have made the film longer and Eowyn would have ended up looking like a total slut, but if it was done properly, I don't think it would have been that bad. This version happened rather quickly and gave off a slightly odd perception, but I suppose, for sake of filmmaking, it was all right. As an F/E fan, I missed it sorely, but... eurgh... Never mind. ~ Ahrianna

I agree. They fell so in love with their glorious, beautiful love story of A/A, but they completely ignored a more fully-fleshed out book-canon story.
The EE kinda just said, "Oh, Eowyn found this other guy, and they're cute together, but are they really in love?"
