Hello :~TOA~:!!
Happy April Fools' Day, if ever that day is actually "happy", and let's hope that, at least for us on the U.S. West Coast, the weather picks up! Hope all of you are enjoying your spring - or fall, depending upon which side of the equator you happen to land on.
Wishing a happy birthday to all our April babies here - at the very least, Anaroriel, correct?
A round of applause for our newest member of the administration team - Elbereth has graciously agreed to moderate our Manuscripts board, alongside the manager. Welcome aboard, Elbereth!
Another warm welcome to our newest member, fael_bain - best of luck to you on this site, and we hope it proves worth your while! She has also provided the latest addition to our archive, a Third Age fic entitled Greenleaf, which is very well done.
A heartfelt congratulations to the site - this forum reached 500 posts early this morning! Many thanks to those of you who are indeed active on this site. You know who you are - no names will be mentioned... Please, keep it up! You're all very appreciated!
A bunch of changes are going on right now for the site, as many of you have likely noticed.
Please keep in mind the membership policy we have going - few of you are in danger of having action done to your accounts at this point, but just a reminder.
Some confusion has arisen from our advertising regulations, so the answers will be up in the FAQ for the site soon. For now, however, allow us to clarify:
Advertising is not allowed for the following aspects:
-- personal websites
-- adult/inappropriate sites
-- sites with little or no pertinence to Tolkien or :~TOA~:
Advertising IS allowed for:
-- general sites
-- humor links
-- information links
For example, if you are posting a link to, say, Ardalambion, to answer a question on one of the Tolkien boards, that's just fine. Advertising another archive, or another personal site is not.
If you're not sure about a link, ask the manager!! We're fairly lenient for links, and if you have a good reason, it can go up! And until we get this cleared up, advertising an inappropriate link in the wrong place will NOT count against you and result in a warning.
The main site is also moving - the purpose of having it based on MSN as a group has obviously depleted itself, so site hosting will be switching - if all goes to plan, the link will be released by the end of this coming week.
In mid-April, primarily the 9-17 (PST), the manager will be completely absent from the site. The resident asst. manager, Angel, will be in charge of review threads, managing the boards, and conducting any issues that may arise. Should something come up for her, please excuse the lateness of review threads - she will be here, but if problems come up, the author may start their own thread in the General board temporarily - the manager will move it when she returns. Please give Angel a two-day window before you open your thread.
For those of you who have experienced complications with the YaBBC tags (or UBBC, depending on what you call them), either with inability to click on them, or confused as to usage, our wonderful HTML admin, Natalie (sn. = Nienna Silimaure), is trying to compile a basic list and explanation of usage methods through this week and the next.
If any of you are interested in taking up an admin's position on the site, please take a look through the listing and fill out an application so that we know who to watch for certain - a time will come before 2005 is through when we'll have need for almost every admin position to be filled.
The first Challenge closes on the 30th of this month, but if the entry count is low, we may lengthen that date.
And as you can see, we've changed the style of these updates, so that we're summarizing the site's changes, etc., and it will be emailed to each member on a mailing list, as well as posted on the main site.
Thanks for all your work in building up this site this month! We've got some great topics going, so keep them coming! If you can help us to get the word out about the site without breaking anyone's rules, we'd be much obliged to you!
Management may be a little absent this month, but keep the activity going - it's nice to come back to!
Again, thank you, and have a great April!
