Hey ~ Well, nice first post. I love the imagery and the writing style here - your descriptions are very sharp and easy to see, with that little bit of ambiguity that you can play around with in your head. Good contemplation from Erkenbrand - to serve his homeland, or the king that had done little over the years? It may only last for a thought, but it's there, providing that little bit of tension. Nice work with filling in canon - I love doing that. Interesting description of Gandalf - the luminescence beneath the shroud, or whatever that line was (sorry - I haven't the patience to look it up - we don't see Gandalf as others may have seen him, and we all know he wasn't exactly welcomed in Rohan... I like your capture of the emotion - anger, pain, and whatnot. I can't exactly say whether or not it's accurate, but hey. Only one question - where you say "the men of Dunlendings", is that correct connotation? The Dunlendings are the cumulative description for the race of men that inhabit Dunland, so shouldn't it be "the men of Dunland"? Aside from that, good story. Congrats for technically starting off this section of the forum! ~ Elwen And I apologize for the whole censoring thing - I'm going to see what I can do about it; the overriding system is really picky about "vulgar language" and such...

I really loved this story-- I enjoy reading works that take a little known character or scene and expound on it; detail it in with their own image of what it was like. It leaves more open to the imagination of the writer and can sometimes give readers a new spin on things.
Good job and keep it up!
Toodles!

Wow... Very interesting take on Erkenbrand!! As Skande said, the stories that pick up on the little-known characters or ideas are really interesting, and you've done a good job here. I've always wanted to work with that scene, wondering just how Gandalf approached them, and then what the reactions would be.
Lovely equine imagery - I can just see that valiant horse in the battlefield, standing quietly amid the slaughter. And for a horse, that's saying something.
Good note about the red shield - not something that first comes to mind with red paint!! Interesting perspective.
Nice writing style - flows nicely, and gets the ideas and images across clearly without imposing upon the reader too harshly. Keep up the good work!
